Distribution transformers have great energy-saving potential
Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, together with the National Development and Reform Commission and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, held a "Distribution Transformer Energy Efficiency Improvement Plan (2015-2017) Promotion Meeting" in Nanjing, Jiangsu. Representatives from the national industrial and information energy conservation departments, State Grid Corporation, China Southern Power Grid Corporation, PetroChina, Sinopec, and members of the Transformer Energy Efficiency Improvement Industry Alliance attended the meeting. At the meeting, comrades from the local economic and information committees of Shandong, Guangxi, Hunan and other places introduced the achievements and experience of carrying out the work of improving the energy efficiency of distribution transformers. The State Grid Corporation introduced excellent cases of energy-saving transformation of distribution transformers. Relevant experts and alliance members exchanged views on the investment and financing model of distribution transformer transformation and advanced technologies of energy-saving distribution transformers.
The participating units stated that they will actively implement the distribution transformer energy efficiency improvement plan in accordance with the unified arrangements of the state, promote the elimination of high-energy-consuming and backward distribution transformers and the promotion and application of high-efficiency and energy-saving distribution equipment, so as to further promote energy conservation and consumption reduction and the development of energy-saving and environmental protection equipment manufacturing industry.
Huge energy-saving potential
According to statistics, my country's transmission and distribution losses account for about 6.6% of the country's power generation, of which distribution transformer losses account for 40-50%. Taking 2013 as an example, the annual power generation in China was 5.32 trillion kWh, and the power loss of distribution transformers was about 170 billion kWh, which was equivalent to 1.7 times the annual power generation of the Three Gorges Power Station in 2013 (about 100 billion kWh). The power loss was very serious.
As an important measure for energy conservation and emission reduction, many countries in the world have introduced corresponding policies to improve the energy efficiency of distribution transformers. In recent years, my country has also accelerated the promotion and application of high-efficiency distribution transformers by implementing the distribution transformer energy efficiency improvement plan. Many domestic transformer manufacturers have invested a lot of money to introduce advanced foreign manufacturing technology and equipment, and continuously developed low-loss transformers and transformers of various structural forms, such as the SCB10 series of dry-type transformers and low-loss products such as amorphous alloy cores, which show the energy-saving potential of my country's distribution transformers.
Last year, my country formulated the "Distribution Transformer Energy Efficiency Improvement Plan (2015-2017)", which proposed that by the end of 2017, the upgrading and transformation of high-energy-consuming distribution transformers will be initially completed, and the proportion of high-efficiency distribution transformers in the grid will increase by 14%; a relatively complete supporting system and standardized market order will be established, and the proportion of high-efficiency distribution transformers in the new volume that year will reach 70%; it is expected that by 2017, a total of 600 million kilovolt-amperes of high-efficiency distribution transformers will be promoted, and 9.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity will be saved annually, which is equivalent to saving 3.1 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 8.1 million tons.
At present, under the background of the country's efforts to promote energy conservation and emission reduction, various regions have introduced policies to accelerate the development and promotion of high-efficiency distribution transformers. And encourage high-efficiency distribution transformer manufacturers to establish energy-saving service companies or cooperate with professional energy-saving service companies, focusing on the use of contract energy management models to carry out distribution transformer energy efficiency improvement projects.
Sichuan, Jiangsu, Shandong and many other places have also successively issued distribution transformer energy efficiency improvement plans to increase the promotion of high-efficiency transformers. According to the improvement plan, by the end of 2017, Shandong Province will have initially completed the upgrading and transformation of high-energy-consuming distribution transformers, and the proportion of high-efficiency distribution transformers in operation in the province will reach 23%; a total of 40 million kilovolt-amperes of high-efficiency distribution transformers will be promoted; high-energy-consuming distribution transformers will be eliminated, and the elimination of high-energy-consuming transformers of S9 and below will be basically completed. After the energy efficiency improvement plan for high-efficiency distribution transformers in Shandong Province is completed, it is expected to achieve an annual electricity saving of 630 million kWh, equivalent to saving 210,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 540,000 tons.
